01 / The practice

A small practice for large insurance programmes.

Independent senior advisory on life and annuity platform programmes — conversions, consolidations, reinsurance block migrations, and the product-configuration work that sits underneath all of them.

Most engagements are arranged through Tier-1 insurance software providers — the firms that run policy administration platforms for major carriers and reinsurers. Some engagements are arranged with carriers or reinsurers directly.

Engagements are typically multi-year, sole-practitioner arrangements at the senior advisory level. The practice does not staff teams, run RFPs, or compete on scale of consulting headcount.

Client segments
Where the work sits in the industry.
The practice works with the following types of organisation, either directly or through their administration platform vendor.
  • Life and annuity carriers
  • Closed-book consolidators
  • Life and annuity reinsurers, including Bermuda
  • Pan-regional life assurance groups
  • Tier-1 administration platform providers
02 / Engagement model

How the practice is set up.

Four facts that describe what working with the practice actually looks like.

i.
Single principal.
Steven Wilson is the engagement. The practice does not staff teams, run delivery operations, or compete on consulting headcount. All client-facing work is performed personally.
ii.
Multi-year retainers.
Engagements are typically structured as retainers spanning specific programme phases — usually measured in quarters and years rather than weeks.
iii.
Direct or alongside the platform vendor.
Engagements run either with the carrier or reinsurer directly, or alongside their Tier-1 platform vendor's delivery team. Most current work is the latter.
iv.
Geographic scope.
Current and recent engagements span the United States, the United Kingdom, continental Europe, Bermuda, and Sub-Saharan Africa.
